Frosts Brighton Speed Trials 11/09/10The Brighton Speed trials is this coming Saturday, if you have never seen a motorcycle exceeding the 30mph limit on Brighton sea front by about another 130mph it is time you made your way down to the longest running and oldest Motoring Events in the World. It is staged along Madiera Drive in Brighton and is run by the Brighton and Hove Motor Club and cohosted by Vintage Motorcycle Club ( Sprint Section). It atracts competitors on both 2 and 4 wheels, from vintage bikes and cars right upto modern day drag bikes and cars. Last year's winner was Roger Simmons on his very special Suzuki Hayabusa that recorded a terminal speed of 164 mph and a quarter mile time of 8.8 seconds that is just amazing. The Fastest car managed a terminal speed of 142mph and a time of 9.63 seconds. Unfortunately my old Rudge is not quite as quick as that but hopefully this year I shall be getting close to 100mph and believe me that feels plenty fast on a bike that has no brakes or suspension.... The interesting thing at Brighton is the cross section of both new and old, if you would like some more information check out this link and if you look closely on the galleries from previous years there is the odd picture of me on various bikes. How do I enter the Brighton Speed Trials? I have been competing at Brighton every year since the late eighties other than one year whewn i broke my arm on a track day just before hand it is a brilliant event so make sure you come down and have a look. |
